Searching for articles
Within the 'Article databases' tab, you can choose to search databases of articles across all subject areas by selecting the 'mixed subject databases' option from the last drop box.
You can also limit your search to only databases that are in a particular subject area or format, by specifying the 'scope' in the last drop box. For example, you can choose to search only across databases on business, databases on literature, or Australian newspapers.
Accessing articles
All the databases included in an 'Article databases' search can be accessed when you are on site at the Library. A limited number of databases can also be accessed away from the Library if you are Victorian and signed in as a registered Library user.
A small selection of databases can be accessed by anyone from anywhere. You can search these databases by selecting 'Free websites (full access)' from the last drop box. Articles that can be accessed by anyone from outside the Library are identified as 'partial access' or 'full access'.
Viewing your search results
Searching for articles across numerous databases simultaneously takes a few moments. When you search within the 'Article databases' tab, a pop-up box will tell you what percentage of your search is complete. You can click on 'show me what you have so far' at any time to stop the search and view the results that have already been found.
